About Tall Meadow Rue

Tall Meadow Rue is a majestic giant of the wetlands, capable of reaching heights of 7 to 9 feet in ideal conditions. This robust perennial commands attention in mid to late summer (June to August) with its large, airy panicles of starry white flowers that appear like misty clouds floating above the garden. Its elegant, compound foliage is deeply lobed and remains a lush green throughout the growing season, providing a stately backdrop for smaller plants. Found naturally in wet meadows, swamps, and along stream banks from Canada down to the southeastern United States, it is highly adaptable to various garden settings with consistent moisture. The nectar-rich blossoms are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies, making it an excellent choice for supporting local pollinators. While it prefers full sun to partial shade, it requires steady moisture to maintain its impressive stature. It is a perfect addition to rain gardens or the back of a moist perennial border where its height can be fully appreciated.
