About Sky Blue Aster

Sky Blue Aster is a stunning autumn-blooming perennial that brings the brilliant color of a clear October sky down to earth. This resilient wildflower typically reaches heights of 2 to 3 feet, producing a profusion of daisy-like blossoms with striking blue to blue-violet rays and sunny yellow centers that turn purple with age. Its slender, slightly rough stems and narrow, grayish-green leaves provide a delicate texture to the late-season garden. Native to the central and eastern United States, it thrives in dry to medium prairies, open woods, and rocky glades. As one of the last nectar sources available before winter, it is a vital resource for migrating monarch butterflies and a wide array of native bees. Sky Blue Aster is remarkably drought-tolerant and easy to grow, preferring full sun to partial shade in well-drained soils. Its deep root system and sturdy habit make it an excellent choice for stabilizing slopes or adding low-maintenance color to a meadow restoration.
