About Panicled Aster
Panicled Aster is a vigorous and adaptable native perennial that fills the autumn air with clouds of snowy white blossoms. Reaching impressive heights of 3 to 6 feet, it produces dense panicles of small white flowers that create a striking visual impact in the late-season landscape. Its long, narrow, lance-shaped leaves and generally smooth stems are characteristic of this hardy species. Found throughout nearly all of North America in moist prairies, meadows, and along wetland margins, it is a champion of versatility. The blooms, appearing from July through October, feature yellow centers that transition to purple as they mature. Ecologically, Panicled Aster supports a diverse array of pollinators, including syrphid flies, bees, and butterflies, providing them with essential late-season habitat and nutrition. It is ideally suited for full sun and medium-wet to medium soil conditions. Because it spreads aggressively via rhizomes and can form clonal colonies, it is best used in larger naturalized areas, rain gardens, or riparian restoration projects where it can fulfill its role as a key component of a healthy ecosystem.
