About Snowy Campion
Snowy Campion is a rare and refined native wildflower that brings a touch of elegance to the damp, shaded areas of the landscape. This rhizomatous perennial typically grows 1 to 3 feet tall, featuring slender, arching stems and opposite, lance-shaped leaves. Its pure white, five-petaled flowers appear from June through August, each petal subtly notched at the tip and emerging from a smooth, light green calyx. Native to the Central and Eastern United States, it is a specialized inhabitant of riverbanks, floodplain forests, and moist meadows. Snowy Campion prefers partial shade and consistently moist, loamy soil, reflecting its natural riparian habitat. Because it spreads via rhizomes, it can form attractive colonies over time, making it an excellent choice for naturalizing in a rain garden or along a shaded pond edge. It is a high-value plant for conservation-minded gardeners, as it is listed as threatened or endangered in several states and provides a specialized nectar source for native moths and bees.
