About Wild Petunia

Wild Petunia is a charming, low-growing perennial that brings a touch of delicate beauty to any sunny garden spot. This versatile plant features funnel-shaped, lavender to purple blooms that resemble true petunias, appearing from May through October. Reaching a height of 1 to 2 feet, its compact and bushy form is characterized by hairy, olive-green leaves. Native to the eastern and central United States, it thrives in dry to medium-well-drained soils and can handle full sun with ease. Beyond its visual appeal, Wild Petunia is a vital ecological contributor, serving as a host plant for the Common Buckeye butterfly and attracting a variety of long-tongued bees and hummingbirds. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens or as a front-of-border specimen. For best results, sow seeds in late fall or provide a period of cold stratification to ensure successful spring germination.
