About Wild Bergamot

Wild Bergamot is a cornerstone of the North American prairie, beloved for its resilience, fragrance, and immense value to wildlife. This versatile perennial grows two to four feet tall and is crowned with shaggy, lavender to pinkish-purple flower heads from mid-to-late summer. Every part of the plant is highly aromatic, with a scent reminiscent of Earl Grey tea, earning it a place in many traditional herbal uses. Native to a wide range of habitats across nearly all of North America, it is incredibly adaptable, thriving in full sun to partial shade and tolerating a variety of soil types from moist to dry. It is one of the best plants for attracting a diverse array of pollinators, including specialist bees, hawk moths, and hummingbirds. While it can be susceptible to powdery mildew in humid conditions, providing adequate spacing and sun can help keep the foliage clean. Whether used in a large-scale meadow restoration or a small backyard pollinator patch, Wild Bergamot is a reliable and beautiful performer that supports a healthy ecosystem.
