About Scarlet Bee Balm

Scarlet Bee Balm is a showstopper in the native garden, famous for its brilliant, fire-engine red blossoms that are practically irresistible to hummingbirds. This robust perennial typically grows three to four feet tall, featuring aromatic, mint-scented leaves on sturdy square stems. The tubular flowers are arranged in dense, ragged-looking heads that bloom throughout the mid-to-late summer, providing a vibrant splash of color when many other plants are beginning to fade. Native to the moist woods and stream banks of eastern North America, it prefers full sun to partial shade and soil that remains consistently moist. In addition to hummingbirds, it is a favorite of butterflies and long-tongued bees. To keep it healthy and minimize powdery mildew, it is best to provide good air circulation and ensure it doesn't dry out during the heat of summer. Scarlet Bee Balm is a fantastic choice for the back of a perennial border or a dedicated pollinator garden, where its bold color and ecological value can truly shine.
