About Button Blazing Star

Button Blazing Star, also known as Rough Blazing Star, is a show-stopping native perennial that provides a spectacular late-season finale in the garden. This upright wildflower typically grows 2 to 5 feet tall, producing a long spike of unique, button-like flower heads that burst into fluffy, purple blossoms from the top down. Unlike many other Blazing Stars, the flower heads are spaced out along the stem, giving it a distinct, textured look. Native to dry, sandy prairies and open woodlands, it is exceptionally well-adapted to drought and poor soils. It is a legendary pollinator plant, serving as a critical nectar source for migrating Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and a vast array of native bees. Button Blazing Star thrives in full sun and requires well-drained soil; it may even flop if the soil is too rich or moist. Plant this beauty in groups for a dramatic effect, and enjoy the parade of winged visitors that will flock to its vibrant, nectar-rich blooms throughout the late summer and fall.
