About Inland Rush

Inland Rush is a resilient workhorse of the prairie that brings structural elegance to any moist landscape. This native perennial grows in tidy, upright tufts of slender, medium-green stems reaching up to 2 feet in height. From late spring through early summer (April-July), it produces small, greenish-brown flower clusters. Found throughout the central United States and parts of the West, Inland Rush is highly adaptable, thriving in moist prairies, swales, and even disturbed areas with clay or rocky soils. It is particularly valued for its ability to handle poorly drained sites where other plants might struggle. Ecologically, it provides habitat and seeds for various insects and waterfowl, while its high silicon content makes it naturally resistant to heavy grazing. For best results, plant Inland Rush in full sun. It is a fantastic choice for rain gardens or restoration projects where a tough, low-maintenance species is needed to stabilize soil and provide consistent green cover.
