About Wild Strawberry
Wild Strawberry is a delightful native groundcover that offers sweet spring blooms and even sweeter summer berries. This low-growing perennial typically reaches only 4 to 7 inches in height, spreading efficiently via runners to form a lush green carpet. Its classic three-parted leaves are joined by charming white flowers with bright yellow centers from April to June. As the flowers fade, they give way to small, intensely flavorful strawberries that are a favorite of both humans and wildlife. Native across almost all of North America, it is a resilient plant found in prairies, meadows, and open woods. It provides essential nectar for early-season pollinators, while the berries support a variety of birds and mammals. Wild Strawberry is incredibly versatile, growing well in full sun to shade and in soils ranging from medium-wet to dry. It is an excellent choice for naturalizing edges or serving as a functional, edible component of a native garden.
