About Schreber's Wood Aster

Schreber's Wood Aster is an elegant and reliable native perennial that brings a bright, starry presence to the late-season shade garden. Very similar in appearance to the White Wood Aster, this species is distinguished by its larger, more robust basal leaves and its slightly more vigorous growth habit. Standing 1 to 3 feet tall, it produces a profusion of crisp white flowers with yellow-to-reddish centers from August through September, providing a much-needed splash of color as summer begins to wane. Native to the mesic forests and seepage slopes of the northeastern and north-central United States, it thrives in the dappled light of a woodland setting. This aster is a vital nectar source for a variety of native bees and butterflies. It is exceptionally well-suited for naturalizing in shaded areas, where its rhizomatous roots help it form attractive, low-maintenance colonies. Plant it in partial to full shade in medium to medium-dry soil for the best results. Schreber's Wood Aster is a fantastic choice for gardeners seeking to add both visual appeal and ecological depth to their woodland landscapes.
