About Flat-topped Aster

Flat-topped Aster is a robust and dependable native perennial that brings a cloud of white blooms to the late-summer landscape. Growing 3 to 5 feet tall, it features sturdy, upright stems topped with large, flat clusters of small, daisy-like white flowers with yellow centers. Blooming from July to September, it is a magnet for a wide variety of pollinators, including butterflies, bees, and beneficial wasps. Native to moist meadows, marshes, and woodland edges across eastern North America, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist to wet, well-drained soil. Unlike many other asters, it is relatively resistant to powdery mildew, keeping its foliage looking fresh throughout the season. Its rhizomatous habit allows it to form attractive colonies over time, making it an excellent choice for rain gardens, wetland restorations, or the back of a perennial border where its height and late-season color can be fully appreciated.
