About Tall Coreopsis

Tall Coreopsis is a majestic giant of the prairie, reaching impressive heights of seven to nine feet and creating a stunning vertical accent in larger gardens. This robust perennial features airy, branched stems topped with clusters of bright yellow flowers with distinct brownish-red centers, blooming from mid-summer well into the autumn months (July to October). Its leaves are typically divided into three lance-shaped segments, giving it a refined, architectural appearance despite its size. Native to a broad range across eastern and central North America, it naturally occurs in moist prairies, thickets, and woodland edges. This species is a magnet for wildlife, providing plentiful nectar for long-tongued bees, butterflies, and soldier beetles, while its seeds offer a late-season feast for goldfinches. Tall Coreopsis prefers full to partial sun and is adaptable to various soil types, ranging from medium-wet to medium-dry. Due to its vigorous nature and rhizomatous spreading, it is best suited for larger naturalized areas or the back of a wide border.
