About Crowfoot Fox Sedge

Crowfoot Fox Sedge (Carex crus-corvi), also known as Raven's-foot Sedge, is a robust and distinctive native species that adds a touch of the wild to the dampest parts of the landscape. This sedge is known for its attractive blue-green foliage and its large, complex flower spikes that resemble a crow's foot, giving it its common name. Growing in mounded clumps that reach about 16 to 36 inches in height, its strappy leaves often droop elegantly. Native to the southern and central United States, it is typically found in alluvial bottomlands, swamps, and wet meadows. It is a valuable plant for wetland wildlife, providing dense cover and seeds for birds. Crowfoot Fox Sedge prefers partial to full sun and thrives in wet soils, including those with high clay content. Its unique foliage color and branched, long-beaked seed heads make it an excellent choice for rain gardens or as a groundcover in consistently moist areas.
