About False Boneset
False Boneset is a tough-as-nails perennial that brings a subtle, refined beauty to the late-summer prairie. An underrated gem for dry, sunny landscapes where other plants might struggle, it typically grows one to four feet tall. It features narrow, grayish-green leaves and produces dense clusters of creamy-white to pale yellow, tassel-like flowers from July through October. While the flowers are modest, they are produced in great abundance and are highly attractive to butterflies and moths. Native to a vast portion of North America, including much of the US and Mexico, it is typically found in dry prairies, rocky glades, and open woodlands. Its deep taproot makes it exceptionally drought-tolerant once established. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, thriving in medium to dry conditions. Its structural form and attractive seed heads provide interest throughout the winter months, making it a versatile choice for naturalized gardens.
