About Tall Green Milkweed

Tall Green Milkweed is a slender and architectural perennial that brings a subtle, geometric beauty to the tallgrass prairie. Growing 2 to 4 feet tall on a single, unbranched stem, it is adorned with narrow, linear leaves and multiple spherical flower heads that emerge from the leaf axils. The flowers are a cool, translucent green with white highlights, offering a sophisticated look for the summer garden. Native to the central United States, this species is typically found in high-quality prairies and glades, thriving in full sun and a variety of soil types ranging from moist to dry. Like all milkweeds, it is a vital host for Monarch caterpillars and a magnet for native bees and butterflies. Its deep taproot makes it very drought-resistant once established. Tall Green Milkweed is an excellent choice for a structured prairie planting or a meadow-style garden where its unique form can be appreciated against the backdrop of native grasses.
