About Canada Anemone

Canada Anemone is a vigorous and cheerful groundcover that blankets the early summer garden with a sea of pristine white, upward-facing flowers. Each bloom features five showy sepals surrounding a prominent cluster of yellow stamens, rising above deeply lobed, bright green foliage that remains lush throughout the season. Native to damp meadows, riverbanks, and low-lying prairies across much of North America, this perennial typically reaches one to two feet in height. It is a fantastic choice for stabilizing soil or filling large areas quickly, as it spreads via rhizomes to form dense, weed-suppressing mats. While it provides valuable pollen for small bees and hoverflies, its bitter foliage makes it naturally resistant to deer and rabbits. Canada Anemone performs best in moist to medium soils in full sun to partial shade, though it can tolerate drier conditions once established. Given its aggressive spreading habit, it is most at home in naturalized areas or contained garden beds where its enthusiastic growth can be appreciated.
