About Showy Wild Garlic
Showy Wild Garlic is a refined variety of the common meadow garlic, prized for its more ornamental display and tidier growth habit. This perennial produces striking umbels of white to pale lavender flowers that sit atop slender, upright stems reaching about 12 to 18 inches in height. Unlike the standard species, this variety focuses more on floral production, creating a more consistent and attractive bloom from April through June. It is native to the Midwestern United States, typically found in prairies and rocky glades. The nectar-rich blossoms are a magnet for small native bees and early-season pollinators. Showy Wild Garlic thrives in full sun and prefers medium to medium-dry, well-drained soils. It is an excellent choice for rock gardens, native borders, or pocket prairies where a touch of delicate, early-season color is desired without the aggressive spreading of some other wild onions.
