About Slender False Foxglove

Slender False Foxglove is a charming, fine-textured annual that adds a whimsical touch to the late-summer prairie or meadow. Typically growing one to two feet tall, it features exceptionally narrow, almost thread-like leaves. Its dainty, pale purple to pinkish flowers appear from August to October, providing a critical nectar source for late-season pollinators like the Common Buckeye butterfly, for which it also serves as a larval host. Native to a variety of habitats including dry prairies, open woods, and sandy fields, it is remarkably adaptable to different soil types as long as they are well-drained. Like other members of its genus, it is hemiparasitic on the roots of grasses, which helps it thrive in competitive meadow environments. For successful cultivation, sow seeds in a sunny to partly shaded spot with medium-wet to dry soil. Its airy appearance makes it a perfect 'filler' plant that can weave through taller grasses, creating a beautiful, naturalistic look while supporting local biodiversity.
